More reflections on suffering

Over a year ago I attended Father Matt Hartley's defending the faith class. One of the things he spoke about was that often in moments of suffering the first thing we want to ask God is "why?" Perhaps because it gives us some sense of control? Yet even if God did explain to us why, this would not bring the closure or the control we seek. Fr Matt said the question to ask is "What is your response to this Lord?" He then pointed to the cross, indicating God's answer.

This morning on Grace FM 89.7, Pastor Ed Taylor was saying something very much like this, he said it seems our first response to suffering is to ask why?  He said God is often silent to that question.  He said something close to what Father Matt said about the question of "What" instead and added the question to ask, "who?" Who is God in this, in what way is he revealing himself through this?

I think that this is true, at times when we have suffering we can draw closer to God through seeking what is God's response, what does he want us to do in response, and how is God revealed through this?

I knew I wasn't done with this topic yet... I wonder why? Oh, strike that! ;)
