YES! YES! YES! Of course we are Christian, the Catholic Church is the first Christian Church.
Tired of having to repeat myeslf so much in different places, so here is a short list, things that have come up too many times:
1. Catholics don't worship Mary, saints, statues, etc... We worship the Holy Trinity. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If there are any Catholics who worship Mary, saints, statues, etc... then they are wrong and don't know Church teaching.
2. It is a terrible evil and a sickening betrayl when a priest molests a child. That said though, MOST priests are good and faithful men who are equally angered when anyone harms a child. The Church is making great progress in making the Church safer for kids. The Popes recent investigations in Ireland, Archbishop Chaput's investigations in Phillidelphia, and others are comeing along well and they are being very thourough in their efforts to weed out those who are a part of the problem. Background checks and Safe Enviroment classes are mandatory for anyone working in parishes or volunteering in parishes, that includes clergy. Look up the statistics on child abuse please, a child is most likely to be abused by a member of their own family then by a priest. There are more cases of protestant pastors abusing kids than of Catholic Priests. There are more cases of doctors and teachers abusing kids. The priests I know I trust around my daughter.
3. You know what, your right, Catholics should study the Bible more. I know many who do, but historically Catholics havn't been good about that. Jeff Cavins and Tim Gray have an AWESOME Catholic Bible study available, "The Great Adventure:Bible Timeline". There are many other study oppertunities, that is just one that I would recomend because I really got a lot out of it. In this modern information age we have no excuse for not knowing our faith and not studying scripture.
4. No, Church teachings do not controdict the Bible. Why would the Church canonize scripture that controdicts Church teaching? That wouldn't even make sense.
5. Yes, a lot of Catholics could learn a thing or two from protestants. Examples: We do need to be born again. We need to be active in our faith. We need to have a relationship with Jesus. We do need to get out there and join people like the Presbyterian Minister Patrick Mahoney, in religious freedom and pro-life demonstrations. Hopefully more Catholics will become as active in their faith and passionate about Christ as you are. Some of them already are.
That's all for now, there is a ton more I should add, just not now. Maybe I will do another post in the future like this. Again, please comment on my facebook post instead of here. Thanks. :)
